What is this licence?
Section 48 consent grants applicants the power to lay electric lines across or under a street, road, railway or tramway. It also gives the right to break up any street, road, railway or tramway for that purpose.

When do I need it?
If you are a generator who intends to lay electric lines across or under a street, road, railway or tramway then you will need to apply for consent under Section 48 of the Electricity Regulation Act for the contestable construction of the grid connection to develop a generation station.
How to apply
The CRU recommend that applications should be submitted at least two months before you intend to exercise the consent. To apply, submit an application form and supporting documentation to the CRU by email to [email protected].
The CRU will acknowledge fully completed applications within 10 working days of receiving them. Once the CRU acknowledge an initial application, they will review it and contact you if they need clarifications or additional information.
