What is this licence?

A road opening licence must be obtained for any excavation on a public road, footpath, grass margin or public car park. You can get this from your Local Authority, supported by the Road Management Office.

When do I need it?

How to apply

To apply, you need to register on the MapRoad Licensing (MRL) system through the Road Management Office website. The MRL system provides the functionality to manage road openings across the state. Registration requires you to satisfy certain requirements for insurance, qualifications etc.
