Licence to Take or Interfere with Protected Plant Species for Scientific, Educational, or Other Such Purposes
What is this licence?
A Flora Protection Order gives legal protection to our rarest and most threatened plants. In order to interfere with these plants, you need a Licence to Take or Interfere with Protected Plant Species for Scientific, Educational, or Other Such Purposes.
Under Section 21 it is an offence to cut, pick, uproot or otherwise take, purchase, sell or be in possession of any plant of a species mentioned in the Order. This is true whether it's the whole plant or part of the plant. It is also an offence to wilfully alter, damage, destroy or interfere with the habitat of these species.
This licence under the Minister is the only exception which allows the removal of these plants.
When do I need it?
A licence is required to take or interfere with protected plant species for scientific, educational or other similar purposes.
