Mini-Generation Grid Connection Offer
What is this licence?
Mini-generation is when an electricity customer installs inverter connected generation to produce electricity. These generators are usually used to locally produce clean electricity for self-consumption. They reduce the need for and cost of buying electricity.
To be considered mini-generation, it must be within the range covered in the definition below.
Mini-generation range
For mini-generation, the Maximum Export Capacity (MEC) cannot be greater than the Maximum Import Capacity (MIC). MEC is defined as the maximum power (in kVA) that is permitted by ESB Networks to transfer from the customer’s point of connection to the Distribution System Operator (DSO) Network.
When do I need it?
You will need this as part of the grid connection stage of your energy project. This will be after you obtain planning permission.
