What is this licence?

Micro-generation is a source of electrical energy, operating in parallel with ESB Networks LV System. It is rated up to and including:

  • 25 amperes (≈6kVA) at low voltage (230 volts) when the connection is single phase
  • 16 amperes(≈11kVA) at low voltage (230/400 volt) when the connection is three-phase

You'll need to apply to connect to the electricity grid. To familiarise yourself with the process, please read the following document:

When do I need it?

You will need it for the scales mentioned above with the following list of technologies:

  • Wind power
  • Solar
  • Small hydroelectric
  • Micro combined heat and power (CHP)
  • Combined renewable micro-generator and storage systems
