Industrial Emissions Licence (IE Licence)
What is this licence?
Certain industrial activities produce emissions of various substances. They also generate waste and use resources such as energy and water. The EPA issue these licences to prevent and control pollution from industrial activities.
When do I need it?
It is only likely to be required for certain scales of infrastructure generating gases such as biogas or biomethane. To check if you need a licence, refer to the First Schedule to the EPA Act.
How to apply
We recommend that you arrange a pre-application consultation with the EPA before submitting your application. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) requirements can be discussed at this stage. Email [email protected] to arrange a pre-application meeting. You can then register to apply on the EPA online system (EDEN).
As part of your application, you may also need to:
- Erect a site notice indicating that you propose to apply for a licence
- Publish a notice in a newspaper circulating in the area
- Notify the relevant planning authority
