Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Permit
What is this licence?
This permit authorises the holder to undertake activities that result in carbon dioxide emissions from listed emission sources. These activities are described in Annex 1 of the ETS Directive (Directive 2003/87/EC).
It also contains requirements the holder must meet in respect of these emissions. This includes monitoring and reporting requirements.
The permit places an obligation on the operator to surrender allowances to the EPA. These allowances are equal to the annual reportable emissions of carbon dioxide equivalent from the installation in each calendar year, no later than four months after the end of each year.
When do I need it?
If you intend to carry out an activity listed in Annex 1 of the EU ETS Directive, you must hold a GHG Permit.
