Excavation Licence (Archaeological) / Ministerial Consent for Works At or Near a National Monument / Detection Device Consent (Archaeological)
What is this licence?
You may need these licences if you are completing archaeological works at or near a national monument. It is relevant if the monument is either:
- In the ownership or guardianship of the Minister
- In the ownership or guardianship of a local authority
- Under a preservation order
In these cases, Section 14 of the National Monuments Act 1930 (as amended) requires ministerial consent for these works. The Minister must consult with the Director of the National Museum of Ireland about an application for consent.
