What is this licence?

All Irish species listed on Annex IV of the EU’s Habitats Directive are protected by the EC (Birds and Natural Habitats) Regulations 2011-2021. A derogation licence allows activities which could impact the conservation of these species. It is only issued in very limited circumstances.

When do I need it?

You may need this licence during the design or construction phase of your project.

How to apply

You can find the application form directly on the NPWS website. This can be emailed to wildlifelicence@npws.gov.ie or posted to the address stated on the form. It must be accompanied by an up-to-date ecologists report.

Fees

There is no current fee for this licence.
