What is this licence?

Activities Requiring Consent (ARCs) are specific activities which could damage a European Site. These sites are Special Areas of Conservation or Special Protection Areas.

ARCs are not prohibited activities. However, you must get consent from the Minister or a public authority before carrying them out. Permission is also required to carry out certain works within Natural Heritage Area.

When do I need it?

A list of 38 ARCs has been established. These range from “Reclamation, including infilling” to “Lighting up caves, buildings or other places used by bats for roosts”. The particular ARCs for a European Site depend on its protected habitats and species.
