What is this licence?

This permit is required to move abnormal loads. It was introduced as a streamlined permit system. It lists designated routes administered by An Garda Síochána for the movement of loads on the major inter-urban routes and to Cork, Rosslare and Ringaskiddy Ports. These loads shouldn't exceed:

  • 27.4 metres in length
  • 4.3 metres in width

When do I need it?

It is only likely to be required for certain scales of infrastructure generating gases such as biogas or biomethane. To check if you need a licence, refer to the First Schedule to the EPA Act.

Fees

The fees for an Abnormal Loads Permit are:

  • Single Journey Permit - €60
  • Three Month Permit - €150
  • Annual Permit - €500
